Thanks to the specially developed composition of the aerosol particles of the SAFE 220 test spray, a wide range of real fire symptoms can be faithfully simulated. Testing is done by applying an aerosol whose unique formulation has been designed to safely simulate the smoke particles of a fire. In this way, it can be verified that the fire detectors respond correctly to different fire scenarios. This is the most widely used professional method and is recognised and recommended worldwide by leading fire alarm manufacturers such as Kidde, SAFE, FireAngel, Honeywell and Ajax.
The test spray consists of a seamless cylindrical container made of high quality drawn aluminium, which ensures high durability and long service life. The surface of the canister has a durable label with text and graphic information including instructions for use and additional information. The top of the container has a tapered end with a tightly fitted valve, which is followed by a plastic dispenser. A simple squeeze of the atomizer activates the spray and releases the test aerosol. To protect the atomizer from dirt and mechanical damage, the spray is equipped with a removable cover made of durable plastic. The total gas run time is approximately 75 s.
Testing is very easy and requires no special tools. Shake the spray thoroughly before use and then briefly (1-2 seconds) direct the aerosol towards the sensor inlet of the detector from a minimum distance of 50 cm. The detector should sound the alarm within 1 to 20 seconds. If this does not happen, repeat the test. Be careful not to use too large a quantity of the test aerosol and not to spray it too close to the detector. If the retest does not trigger an alarm, check the battery level or consider replacing the detector as it may be defective.
